The Ron and Sammy Show

For my blog about reality TV I chose to watch the season finale of Jersey Shore. Personally, I've been watching it all season and I actually like the show. I don't exactly think it's real people in real situations all the time. For example, people like to see Mike "The Situation" Sammy and Ronnie get into fights and start drama. During the final episode this happens and everybody loved it. Here is a little video clip of it happening. I couldn't find the video of Mike fighting with Sammy but i found another great example of Ronnie and Sam fighting. That had to hurt. This is what people want to see. After this fight when you looked on Facebook is was what everybody was talking about. It's interesting and it makes the show. But in other episodes I feel it could be scripted or even badly played out. It always seems that there is a fight or something that shouldn't happen.
As for competition I didn't really notice any besides in the begging when Mike and Ronnie were fighting over Sammy. Sometimes Vinny and Snooki get into it and end up trying to mess with the other person but I don't see too much competition within the show. As for intelligence I don't see any at all. They do what they want, they say what they want, and they don't care. They don't need to use any smarts besides using their brains to make a good decision or not but usually that doesn't happen.
This show is all abuot sex appeal. They go out every night in the tight little outfits and try to show off all their attributed. People watch it just to see Jwoww or Sammy look good or Snooki make a fool out of herself and accidentally flash people. The three guys always do their GTL and the girls just flaunt over their bodies.
During the season finale the big issue was that while Sammy went home to get away she contacted another guy to meet up with. While one night at the club Mike found his friend and it ended up being the guy Sammy was suppose to meet. When Mike told Ronnie about this guy things started to get ugly again. Then Mike calls up this guy and he tells Ronnie that him and Sammy made out. Of course it started to get ugly but in the end everybody sat down for their last sunday meal and everything went well after.
In this reality TV show I really liked Vinny and Pauly D. They were the only people in the house that I felt weren't fake and said what was on their minds. They made the show more fun and gave everybody some good laughs. I enjoy watching this show most of the time. The only time I don't is when Ron and Sammy fight but i don't think anybody likes that. What makes the show alluring is the fact that it's funny and most of the time real. People have been through those situations before and they like to relate to the show. The role of me as the viewer would be to watch them get drunk and fall on their faces and try to find out what is going to happen next season.

  1. Have people "really" been through the "situations" (haha) that they watch on Jersey Shore? Seriously?

And what does it say about you (and the millions of other viewers) who tune in to watch people get wasted and pick fights with one another?--That's kind of the answer I'm after :)

I mean, isn't it kind of, well, sick? lol

  2. I also really enjoy watching Jersey Shore and have not missed an episode this season. This show breathes drama, especially between Sammi and Ronnie. I agree with you-- I am not sick of watching the two of them fighting. At first it was pretty entertaining, but when it happens just about every episode, it's a little excessive. I think the producers create some of the drama and play the cast members against one another. It makes me wonder whether the whole situation between Sammi, Ronnie, and Arvin was actually real? Or was it something that was just crafted up? Who is telling the truth? I agree with your comment saying who the show is based on sex appeal as well. All they do is care about how they look, and how they dress. I think maybe some people have been in some similar situations, but not to the extent of what happens on this show... if they do, they must lead pretty ridiculous lives. To try and answer Dr. Mortimore's question, I think our viewership of this show just goes to show how we all wished we got to do what they do--- hang out all day and do nothing, occasionally work at a T-shirt shop, go out on a regular basis, and basically be on a extended vacation where you just hang out with friends.

  3. I have only watched a couple of episodes of Jersey Shore so honestly I do not know much about the show. All I do know is that a lot of people watch it and I will always see statuses on facebook about people tuning in to watch it. Who knows maybe I will end up becoming a dedicated fan of the show after watching a couple more episodes!

  4. I never have really watched The Jershey Shore. I hear about it all the time, but I don't really pay attention or keep up with all of the drama that this show depicts. Drama annoys me and I don't like watching shows that just involves fighting over each other. I agree with Lori as she commented above that we would like to live like the cast members of this show. Lets face it we all want to live like celebrities.

  5. This is the same episode I watched. I agree that Vinny and Pauly D make the show. They are really the only reason I watch it anymore. As I said in my blog, the Ronnie and Sammi fighting is so played out. I want to respond to Dr. Mortimore's comment. Before Thursday's class, I didn't think watching reality television was bad or anything. I now, however, realize that it does say a lot about our generation. It is kind of sick that we sit around with our friends and watch other people's lives, (ex. Snooki's), get ruined on television. I remember the episode in which she stumbled on the beach drunk out of her mind. I have never been in a situation like that ever, and nor do I plan to be.

  6. Never watched the Jersey Shore, but I'm pretty much sure I hear enough about it to tell you what goes on. Its a very popular show for our age group. Its sad we watch and enjoy other people go through rough times..and broken relationships. But we keep on watching!
